Water Jet Cutting
In February 2008, Lone Star LWD added Water Jet Cutting to its capacity. This substantial investment has been made primarily to improve our efficiency in existing products as well as increasing our scope of supply into other products and industries.
The machine, manufactured by Water Jet Sweden, has a 3m x 1.5m cutting table and two cutting heads. The cutting heads can cut using pure water or alternatively an abrasive element can be added to increase cutting power. To create the constant high velocity required to cut thick metal, it is essential to purchase the correct pump.
Lone Star LWD has opted for 100hp Streamline SL-V 100 manufactured by KMT. This powerful, reliable pump will allow us to cut thicker, tougher metals much more effectively, thus making the process hugely competitive when competing against more traditional profiling methods.
The machine is CNC controlled and comes complete with a Fanuc 18i system.
- The ability to cut virtually any type of sheet material both metallic and non-metallic up to 300mm thick
- Cuts material without interfering with the material's inherent structure as there is no heat effected zone
- Very effective when cutting highly reflective materials such as copper, aluminium and monel
- The hair thin water jet does not create any direct surface pressure on the material. Consequently, Water Jet Cutting is the most effective way of cutting complex shapes to the highest tolerances
- CAD/CAM system ensure excellent material utilisation
- In many instances, the finish machining process is eliminated due to the high quality of the cut
